Neeraj Chopra Qualifies for Diamond League 2025 Final Ahead of World Championships.
India’s Neeraj Chopra has secured qualification for the Diamond League 2025 Final in Zurich, scheduled for August 27–28. The reigning world champion, who achieved his personal best this season in Doha, is among the first men’s javelin stars to book a spot for the summit clash in Switzerland.
Chopra, experimenting with a new technique under coach Jan Zelezny, has skipped several competitions this season. He last competed in a gold-standard event hosted in Bengaluru and did not participate in the Diamond League meet in Silesia, Poland, on August 16, where he was expected to face Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who withdrew due to injury.
According to the latest Diamond League rankings, Neeraj joins Trinidad & Tobago’s Keshorn Walcott and Germany’s Julian Weber in the final. Chopra has accumulated 15 points from two Diamond League meetings—winning one and finishing second in the other—placing him third behind Walcott (17) and Weber (15).
This season, the 27-year-old surpassed the 90m mark in Doha with a throw of 90.23m, finishing second behind Weber, and later won the Paris DL title with an 88.16m throw in June. Neeraj will next defend his title at the World Championships in Tokyo from September 13–21, immediately following the Diamond League final.
Chopra has previously finished runner-up in the Diamond League final twice: in 2023 to Jakub Vadlejch and last year by a mere 0.01m to Anderson Peters. He has one Diamond League title to his name, earned in 2022.
