PM Modi Arrives in Canada for G7 Summit Amid Global Tensions.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Calgary, Canada, to participate in the 51st G7 Summit, as global attention remains fixed on the escalating conflicts between Israel and Iran, as well as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

His arrival in Canada follows a successful visit to Cyprus, where he held comprehensive talks with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) described the Cyprus leg of the tour as a “memorable” engagement, with PM Modi thanking the Cypriot leadership for their “exceptional warmth and hospitality.”

The Prime Minister is currently on a four-day, three-nation tour, covering Cyprus, Canada, and Croatia. After wrapping up his engagements in Cyprus, he headed to Canada for the G7 Outreach Summit being held in Kananaskis, Alberta.

In a post on social media platform X, the MEA stated, “Heading to Canada for the G7 Summit.”

High-Stakes Summit Amid Global Flashpoints
The G7 Summit comes at a time of mounting geopolitical strain, particularly due to the Israel-Iran tensions and the ongoing war in Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will also attend the summit as a guest leader.

This also marks PM Modi’s first multilateral engagement following the conclusion of Operation Sindoor, India’s counterterrorism mission conducted in Pakistan in May.

During his stay, the Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with Canadian counterpart Mark Carney (recently appointed) and other leaders from both G7 and guest nations.

G7 Outreach Agenda
The Outreach Summit, scheduled for Tuesday afternoon, will focus on three priority themes:

Protecting our communities around the world

Building energy security and accelerating the digital transition

Securing the partnerships of the future

Apart from India and Ukraine, other guest nations invited to the summit include Australia, Brazil, Mexico, South Africa, and South Korea.

Following the conclusion of the summit, PM Modi will depart for Zagreb, Croatia, on Tuesday evening, marking the final leg of his international tour.
