Poll body rejects Class 10 admit card for voter verification in Bengal SIR

The Election Commission (EC) has rejected a proposal to accept the Madhyamik (Class 10) admit card as a valid document for voter verification during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal ahead of the 2026 exercise.

In an official communication dated January 15, the Commission informed the Chief Electoral Officer of West Bengal that the request had been examined but could not be approved. The letter was issued by the Commission’s Under Secretary.

The proposal, sent earlier this month by state election authorities, sought permission to include the Class 10 admit card among the list of acceptable documents for voter verification. However, the EC said the admit card does not feature in its approved list.

The Commission referred to its instructions issued on October 27, 2025, which specify the documents permitted for verification during the SIR in West Bengal. It said the Madhyamik admit card was not included and therefore could not be accepted.

“In view of the above, the Commission is of the opinion that the proposal to accept the Madhyamik (Class X) admit card as a valid document cannot be acceded to,” the letter said.
