Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan has married his long-time partner Sophie Shine in an intimate ceremony held on Saturday, 21 February.
The couple, who had been dating for over a year, made their relationship public in May 2025 after Dhawan shared pictures with Sophie on social media. Their wedding followed an engagement announcement on Instagram on 12 January, which had sparked speculation that marriage was imminent.
Dhawan and Sophie were first seen together during a Champions Trophy 2025 match in Dubai. The former India batter later hinted at finding love again during a media interaction, further fuelling interest in their relationship. Moments from the wedding were shared by fellow cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal, who posted pictures from the ceremony on Instagram with the caption, “Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai.”
Who is Sophie Shine?
Sophie Shine is an Irish professional currently working as Second Vice President – Product Consultant at Northern Trust Corporation. According to her LinkedIn profile, she is based in the UAE and holds a qualification in Marketing and Management from Limerick Institute of Technology. She completed her earlier schooling at Castleroy College in Ireland. Reports indicate that she and Dhawan met in the UAE, where their relationship gradually developed.
The couple celebrated their haldi ceremony on 20 February, with Sophie sharing glimpses of the pre-wedding festivities on her social media account.
This marks Dhawan’s second marriage. He was previously married to Aesha Mukherjee, with whom he tied the knot in 2011. The two officially separated in October 2023, ending an 11-year marriage. A Delhi court, while granting the divorce, noted that Dhawan had faced mental distress and recorded observations related to his access to his son, Zoravar. However, permanent custody was not awarded to the cricketer; instead, he was granted visitation rights and permitted scheduled video calls.
