Shweta Tripathi Begins Shooting for ‘Mirzapur: The Movie’ in Varanasi, Calls City Her ‘Second Home’

Actress Shweta Tripathi has officially begun filming Mirzapur: The Movie, reprising her role as Gajgamini “Golu” Gupta for the big screen. Having become a fan favourite through the web series, Shweta brings Golu to cinemas for the first time, marking a new chapter in the Mirzapur franchise.

Emotional Return to Varanasi

Sources say Shweta was visibly emotional as she stepped onto the Varanasi sets, a city central to Mirzapur’s world. Speaking about her connection to the character and the city, she said:

“Golu is not just a character; she has been a companion for many years. Seeing her journey unfold on the big screen is overwhelming. Varanasi feels like my second home—so many milestones, from Masaan to Mirzapur seasons 1 and 2, have roots here. The city keeps calling me back for its people, food, and the love it has always given me.”

Her trainer Tridev Pandey, also from Varanasi, adds a personal touch to her experience, making the shoot especially meaningful.
