Sitaare Zameen Par Box Office Day 1: Aamir Khan’s Film Opens at ₹11.5 Cr, Falls Short of Laal Singh Chaddha.

Aamir Khan’s much-anticipated film Sitaare Zameen Par, touted as a spiritual sequel to Taare Zameen Par, hit theatres on June 20 and opened to positive reviews. Despite strong buzz, the film collected ₹11.50 crore (India net) on Day 1, slightly below the ₹11.70 crore Day 1 haul of Aamir’s 2022 release Laal Singh Chaddha, according to early estimates by Sacnilk.

The opening figure, however, marks a significant jump from the ₹2 crore Day 1 collection of Taare Zameen Par in 2007. It also places Sitaare Zameen Par at the sixth spot among the top Hindi film openers of 2025.

The film recorded a national Hindi occupancy rate of 21.43% on its opening day, with evening and night shows seeing the strongest turnout. Advance bookings contributed ₹3.31 crore, with over 115,000 tickets sold across more than 9,500 shows.

As of 9:22 AM on Day 2, the film had collected approximately ₹0.07 crore, with more updates expected as the weekend progresses. Analysts expect word of mouth and emotional appeal to drive growth over Saturday and Sunday.

In contrast, the multilingual release Kubera, starring Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna, saw a stronger start, earning ₹3.58 crore by 1 PM on its first day. Backed by a ₹120 crore budget and robust pre-release buzz, Kubera benefited from high advance sales and early show momentum.

About the Film

Directed by RS Prasanna, Sitaare Zameen Par follows the story of Gulshan (Aamir Khan), a self-centered basketball coach sentenced to community service after a public outburst. Tasked with coaching a team of ten neurodivergent adults, Gulshan’s perspective on life and empathy begins to shift. The cast includes Genelia Deshmukh and a talented ensemble portraying the team members.

An official Hindi adaptation of the Spanish film Campeones, Sitaare Zameen Par blends heart, humor, and sports drama, continuing Aamir Khan’s legacy of socially conscious storytelling.
