Title: Abishek Porel’s Bail Plea Rejected, Sent to 14-Day Judicial Custody

Bengal and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel was on Friday denied bail and sent to 14 days of judicial custody by the Chinsurah Court in connection with a rape case.

Porel was arrested by Mogra Police following a complaint by a woman who alleged that he had sexual relations with her on the promise of marriage and had also engaged in misconduct. He was initially produced before the court on August 11 and was remanded to three days of police custody.

The 23-year-old cricketer has been under investigation since June 23, when a woman studying medicine in Karnataka filed a complaint against him at Mogra Police Station. According to sources, the two had been in a relationship for around three and a half years and had discussed marriage. They had also travelled abroad together.

Police had earlier made several attempts to locate Porel at his Chandannagar residence but were unsuccessful. The complainant subsequently approached the Calcutta High Court, which directed Mogra Police to arrest him.

Porel was later arrested in Kolkata, and a case was registered under multiple sections. After his police custody ended, he was produced before the Chinsurah Court on Friday, where his bail plea was rejected and he was remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.
