Vaishno Devi Yatra Rules Updated: Start Within 10 Hours of RFID Card, Complete Return in 24 Hours.

Amid a surge of New Year pilgrims, the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has tightened yatra guidelines to prevent overcrowding and ensure smoother management along the 13 km track from Katra to Bhawan.

New Time Rules for Pilgrims

Devotees must start their yatra within 10 hours of receiving the RFID travel card.

After darshan, they must return to Katra within 24 hours.

Earlier, there was no restriction on starting time or the duration of stay near Bhawan.

Yatra Duration and Travel Options

On foot: 6–8 hours uphill; similar duration downhill.

Round trip: 12–24 hours.

Helicopter: 4–6 hours; fares Rs 1,500–2,000.

Waiting time for darshan: 2–6 hours, longer during peak periods.

How to Reach Vaishno Devi Dham

By Train: Jammu Tawi (50 km from Katra).

By Air: Jammu Airport (70 km) or Srinagar Airport (200 km).

By Road: Regular buses and private vehicles from Jammu or Pathankot.

From Katra, pilgrims can proceed on foot, horse, pitthu, battery-operated vehicles, or helicopter.

Mandatory Registration

  • Online registration is compulsory via the Shrine Board’s official website.
  • Katra railway station registration centre open until midnight to assist pilgrims.
