Vishal Backs Vijay and TVK After Hung Assembly Verdict, Warns of ‘Disastrous’ Outcome

Actor-turned-politician Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has emerged.

As the single largest party in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, marking a dramatic shift in the state’s political landscape dominated for decades by the DMK and AIADMK.

However, despite the historic mandate, TVK has fallen short of the majority mark in the 234-member Assembly. With 108 seats on its own and support from five Congress MLAs, the party’s tally stands at 113—still below the 118 required to form the government. Meanwhile, speculation continues over a possible post-poll alignment between the DMK and AIADMK to stake claim to power.

Amid the political uncertainty, Tamil Nadu Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has reportedly asked Vijay to formally demonstrate majority support by submitting a list of MLAs backing TVK before proceeding with government formation.

According to reports, the governor’s office has sought clarity on whether TVK can cross the majority threshold and has urged the party to explore all constitutional and legal options available.

In this tense political atmosphere, actor Vishal publicly backed Vijay and TVK, expressing concern over the outcome if alternative alliances come to power. In a post on X, he warned that any combination excluding TVK—or a possible DMK-AIADMK arrangement—could lead to “disastrous and catastrophic consequences” for the public sentiment and political stability.

Vishal cited examples from other states, including Goa, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Karnataka, where governments were formed in similar hung assembly situations and later subjected to floor tests to prove majority.

He questioned why a similar process is not being immediately applied in Tamil Nadu, arguing that the mandate of the people should be respected and TVK should be given the opportunity to prove its strength in the Assembly.

Other public figures, including Prakash Raj, Khusbu Sundar, and Kamal Haasan, have also expressed views in support of Vijay’s political position.

As the situation develops, the focus remains on whether TVK can secure the numbers needed for a stable government or whether Tamil Nadu is headed toward a rare and unpredictable political realignment.
