Five days ahead of the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday released a video message highlighting his government’s performance over.

The past two decades, asserting that his work has always been for the people — not for personal or family gain. In the nearly five-minute message, the 74-year-old JD(U) chief appealed to voters to back the NDA alliance, saying its “double-engine government” had transformed Bihar’s development landscape.

“Earlier, the law and order situation in Bihar was terrible. We worked hard to fix it. We also made improvements in education, health, roads, electricity, water supply, agriculture, and youth employment,” Nitish said.

Taking aim at the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD)-Congress alliance, he accused them of misrule during their 15-year tenure. “During their rule, the state suffered from ‘jungle raj’. They did nothing for women. We worked to empower and make them self-reliant,” he said.

Nitish Kumar emphasised that his focus had been inclusive growth. “From the beginning, our government has worked for everyone — Hindus, Muslims, upper castes, backward, extremely backward, Dalits, and Maha Dalits. We worked for all, not for our families,” he said.

The chief minister also credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for supporting Bihar’s development journey. “The NDA government at the Centre has extended full cooperation to Bihar. The pace of development has increased due to both NDA governments working together,” Nitish added.

He also noted that being called a “Bihari” was once considered an insult, but now it was “a matter of pride” because of the state’s progress.

Urging voters to support the NDA, he said, “Give us one more chance. We will take Bihar to the next level of development and make it one of the leading states in India. Please go to your polling booths in large numbers and cast your votes.”

Bihar’s 243-member Assembly will vote in two phases — on November 6 and November 11 — with counting scheduled for November 14.

As part of the NDA seat-sharing agreement, the BJP and JD(U) will contest 101 seats each, while Chirag Paswan’s Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) will fight on 29 seats. Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi’s Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) and Upendra Kushwaha’s Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM) will contest six seats each.
