Deepti Sharma, Player of the Tournament in India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup victory, was felicitated on Friday at the Uttar Pradesh Police Headquarters in Gomtinagar Extension, Lucknow. The ceremony marked her formal induction as a Deputy Superintendent of Police under the state’s sports quota.

The event was attended by Director General of Police (DGP) Rajeev Krishna and other senior officials, who lauded Deepti’s achievements in cricket and her contribution to the state. Addressing the gathering, DGP Krishna said, “Deepti Sharma has not only made the country proud but has also brought glory to Uttar Pradesh and the state police. Her journey will inspire young athletes, especially girls, across the state.”

Highlighting the significance of her accomplishment, the DGP connected Deepti’s success to the rise of Indian cricket, from the men’s 1983 World Cup triumph to the women’s recent victory over seven-time champions Australia. He further praised the state government, under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for inducting outstanding athletes into the police force through the sports quota, emphasizing discipline, hard work, and strong willpower as essential qualities for international success.

At the ceremony, Deepti Sharma expressed pride in joining the Uttar Pradesh Police, calling it a dream come true for her and her family. She thanked her family—especially her elder brother Sumit Sharma—for their constant support and expressed gratitude to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for policies that promote athletes’ career growth. Deepti described the experience of wearing the police uniform for the first time and meeting senior officials as “unforgettable.”

Other officials present included DG Training Rajeev Sabharwal, DG Cyber Crime/CB-CID Vinod Kumar Singh, and ADG Law & Order Amitabh Yash. Earlier in the day, Deepti also met Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, reflecting the state’s ongoing support for sports and athletes.
