WFI Lifts Suspension of Olympic Medallist Aman Sehrawat, Junior Grappler Neha Sangwan.
The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) on Friday lifted the suspensions of Olympic medallist Aman Sehrawat and junior wrestler Neha Sangwan, who had been barred earlier this year for turning up overweight at major international competitions.
The decision allows both athletes to participate in the upcoming Pro Wrestling League (PWL) auction.
Aman, bronze medallist at the Paris Olympics, was suspended after failing to make weight at the World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia, in September, while Neha faced disciplinary action following her disqualification from the Junior Worlds in Samokov, Bulgaria, in August. Both wrestlers were issued show-cause notices and submitted written explanations, describing the incidents as their first lapse and assuring the federation that such violations would not recur.
The WFI Disciplinary Committee reviewed their submissions on November 13, taking into account their strong international track record, and recommended a lenient approach. Following the recommendation, WFI President Sanjay Kumar Singh lifted their suspensions and cleared them for all future competitions.
The federation, however, warned that any repeat violations related to weight management or discipline would attract “stricter disciplinary action.”
