State-Level Tennis Player Radhika Yadav Shot Dead by Father in Gurugram.
In a tragic incident on Thursday, 25-year-old state-level tennis player Radhika Yadav was allegedly shot dead by her father at their residence in Gurugram’s Sector 57. Police said the shooting occurred following a heated argument around noon.
According to initial reports, the altercation was linked to Radhika’s decision to independently run a tennis academy. Investigators say her father, reportedly upset and frustrated, opened fire using his licensed pistol, firing five shots — three of which struck her.
Radhika was rushed to a nearby private hospital in critical condition but succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
The accused has been taken into custody, and the weapon used in the crime has been recovered from the house. “We are questioning family members. A detailed investigation is underway,” said Inspector Vinod Kumar, SHO of Sector 56 Police Station.
Radhika Yadav was a well-known figure on the Haryana state tennis circuit, admired for her strong performances in doubles events. Beyond her playing career, she had recently turned to coaching and ran a tennis academy to mentor young athletes.
Her former coach, Manoj Bhardwaj, expressed shock at the news. “She was immensely talented, focused, and disciplined. This is a devastating loss,” he told reporters.
Radhika had competed in several state and national-level events, facing players such as Viswanadh Harshini, Bougrat Maelys, Sun Yifan, Maruri Suhitha, and Mashabayeva Dilnaz.
Authorities have registered a case, and further investigations are ongoing.
