India Ramps Up Counter-Terror Ops Post-Pahalgam Attack, Eliminates 12 Most-Wanted in 100 Days.
In the 100 days following the deadly Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces have intensified counter-terror operations across Jammu and Kashmir, eliminating 12 high-value targets, including six Pakistani nationals, according to sources. These operations mark a strategic escalation in India’s anti-terror campaign, targeting both infiltrating militants and homegrown operatives involved in past attacks.
The crackdown has come in phases. The most significant push began with Operation Mahadev, which resulted in the neutralisation of the three terrorists responsible for the Pahalgam attack. Soon after, Operation Shiv Shakti was launched on July 29, in which two more Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were killed in Dachigam, near Srinagar, in a joint operation by the Army, CRPF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Ongoing, Widespread Operations
Sources within the security establishment say that while high-profile missions like Mahadev and Shiv Shakti have drawn attention, coordinated counter-terror efforts have been continuous and widespread across the Union Territory. “All units across Jammu and Kashmir are carrying out counter-terror operations in their respective areas.
In the immediate aftermath of the Pahalgam incident, at least four major operations were launched in the first week alone, particularly focused on South Kashmir’s Shopian and Pulwama districts. Mid-May saw another wave of intensified action.
On May 15, three LeT terrorists were neutralised in the Nader area of Tral, Pulwama. Prior to that, another trio of terrorists was gunned down in Shopian’s Keller Forest region.
Operation Sindoor in PoK
While operations continued within Indian territory, cross-border pressure was also reported. During Operation Sindoor, carried out between May 6 and 7, more than 100 terrorists were reportedly eliminated inside Pakistan territory by Indian forces, according to intelligence sources.
Terror Infrastructure Still Active in PoK
Despite these gains, officials remain wary of Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK) continuing to serve as a breeding ground for infiltration. Intelligence assessments suggest that, as of May, 42 active terror launch pads were operational in PoK, sheltering between 110 and 130 terrorists. Within J&K, around 70–75 terrorists were believed to be active in Kashmir Valley, with an additional 60–65 operatives in the Jammu, Rajouri, and Poonch sectors.
