Rajinikanth’s Coolie Enters ₹100 Crore Club in Just 2 Days, Edges Past War 2.

Superstar Rajinikanth’s Coolie is rewriting box office history at a breakneck pace. After setting Kollywood’s biggest opening-day record, the Lokesh Kanagaraj directorial showed no signs of slowing down on Day 2. Boosted by the Independence Day holiday, the film minted ₹44.8 crore net on Friday, taking its India total to a massive ₹109.8 crore.

With this, Coolie has become the fastest Tamil film to cross the ₹100 crore mark, eclipsing Vijay’s Leo and Rajinikanth’s own 2.0, both of which achieved the milestone only on their third day.

Coolie vs War 2: Box Office Clash Heats Up

While Coolie’s numbers dipped marginally in Tamil and Telugu markets on Friday, its Hindi version actually saw a jump, hinting at strong pan-India appeal. But the competition is razor-sharp—Hrithik Roshan’s War 2 is hot on its heels.

After a thunderous ₹51.5 crore opening, War 2 collected ₹55.79 crore on Day 2, pushing its domestic total to ₹107.29 crore. That leaves barely a ₹2.5 crore gap between the two mega-releases, setting the stage for one of the most intense weekend battles in recent memory.

Record-Breaking Global Run for Rajinikanth

Overseas, Coolie has stunned trade trackers. The film raked in nearly $8 million on Day 1 alone from international markets. Sun Pictures confirmed that Coolie grossed ₹151 crore worldwide on its opening day, making it the biggest-ever global opener for a Tamil film and the seventh-highest for any Indian movie.

Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, the film stars Rajinikanth alongside Nagarjuna, Shruti Haasan, Soubin Shahir, and Upendra, with a special cameo by Aamir Khan. Despite mixed-to-positive reviews from critics, audience response remains overwhelming, with houseful shows across India and abroad.

With ₹109 crore already in the bag domestically and record-shattering numbers overseas, Coolie is on track to dominate the extended holiday weekend, even as War 2 continues to breathe down its neck.
