Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra sparked controversy with her incendiary remarks on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, saying his head should be “chopped off” for failing to stop the infiltration of illegal Bangladeshi nationals into India.

Speaking to reporters in Nadia district, Bengal, Moitra said border security is the responsibility of the Home Ministry, and Amit Shah cannot deflect blame onto the TMC government ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections. A video of her comments in Bengali has gone viral, drawing sharp criticism from the BJP, and a formal complaint has been filed against the Krishnanagar MP.

“He keeps talking about infiltrators, infiltrators, infiltrators. The border is guarded by forces under the Home Ministry,” Moitra said.

Both Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have repeatedly accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of enabling infiltration from Bangladesh, claiming the infiltrators form a key part of her vote bank. The issue was also highlighted by PM Modi during his Independence Day address, when he announced a demography mission to curb infiltration.

Moitra added, “On August 15, PM Modi spoke about infiltrators causing demographic changes, but his Home Minister, seated in the front row, was smiling and clapping. If there is no one protecting India’s borders while hundreds of thousands are entering daily, eyeing our mothers and sisters, and grabbing our land, then Amit Shah’s head should be cut off and placed on the table.”
