Chipmaker Nvidia will invest up to $100 billion in OpenAI under a landmark strategic partnership, the companies announced on Monday.

The collaboration aims to provide the compute and infrastructure needed to train and deploy OpenAI’s next-generation AI models, supporting the firm’s long-term goal of developing artificial general intelligence.

The first phase of the initiative is scheduled to go live in the second half of 2026 on Nvidia’s Vera Rubin platform, which will provide the massive computational power required for advanced AI workloads.

“Nvidia and OpenAI have pushed each other for a decade, from the first DGX supercomputer to the breakthrough of ChatGPT,” said Jensen Huang, Nvidia’s founder and CEO. “This investment and infrastructure partnership mark the next leap forward — deploying 10 gigawatts to power the next era of intelligence.”

OpenAI cofounder and CEO Sam Altman highlighted the importance of computing power, stating, “Compute infrastructure will be the basis for the economy of the future. With Nvidia, we aim to deliver new AI breakthroughs and empower people and businesses at scale.”

Greg Brockman, OpenAI’s cofounder and president, added that the partnership builds on years of collaboration: “We’ve been working closely with Nvidia since the early days of OpenAI. Deploying 10 gigawatts of compute will push the frontier of intelligence and help scale the benefits of AI globally.”

Under the agreement, Nvidia will become OpenAI’s preferred strategic compute and networking partner for its AI factory expansion. The two companies will coordinate their hardware and software roadmaps to maximize performance and scalability.

This partnership complements OpenAI’s existing collaborations with Microsoft, Oracle, SoftBank, and Stargate, all focused on creating cutting-edge AI infrastructure.

With over 700 million weekly active users worldwide, OpenAI said the expanded collaboration with Nvidia will accelerate its mission to develop AI that benefits humanity. Details of the agreement are expected to be finalized in the coming weeks.
