Deepika Padukone-Kalki 2 Controversy: Bhumi Pednekar, Tabu Respond to ‘Double Pay, 5-Hour Shoot’ Demands
Deepika Padukone’s exit from Kalki 2 has created waves in the film industry, with reports highlighting disagreements between the actress and the film’s makers.
The controversy intensified after a video of Aamir Khan discussing how much production houses should pay actors started circulating online. Amid the buzz, co-stars Bhumi Pednekar and Tabu have reacted to the unfolding situation.
Bhumi Pednekar and Tabu React
Bhumi Pednekar responded to reports suggesting Deepika’s removal was linked to her high demands. According to Telugu news portal The Aakashavaani, Deepika allegedly asked for double her remuneration compared to what she earned for the first part of the movie. The portal claimed the fee hike was so steep that the producers were shocked. In addition to her pay, Deepika reportedly requested luxurious treatment for her team and insisted on a five-hour workday. Bhumi reacted by ‘liking’ the news report on Instagram and also liked Deepika’s post about starting the shoot for King with Shah Rukh Khan.
Tabu, meanwhile, ‘liked’ a post titled “Reason Why Deepika Padukone Got Kicked Out From Kalki And Spirit,” which included Aamir Khan’s clip explaining that producers are not responsible for actors’ entourages.
Why Did Deepika Padukone Leave Kalki 2?
According to Bollywood Hungama, Deepika was reportedly seeking a 25% hike in fees along with a seven-hour work shift. The makers attempted to negotiate these terms, but the actress remained firm. She is said to travel with an entourage of 25 people and was reportedly demanding five-star accommodations and reimbursement for her team’s meals throughout the shoot. The producers asked her to reduce the team size and relax her demands, but no agreement was reached.
Official Announcement
The makers of Kalki 2 confirmed Deepika’s exit via their official X account. The statement emphasized the need for full commitment to a project of this scale:
“This is to officially announce that @deepikapadukone will not be a part of the upcoming sequel of #Kalki2898AD. After careful consideration, we have decided to part ways. Despite the long journey of making the first film, we were unable to find a partnership. And a film like @Kalki2898AD deserves that commitment and much more. We wish her the best with her future works.”
The controversy has sparked debate online, with fans and industry insiders sharing opinions on whether the split was purely professional or influenced by the actress’s reported demands.
