Professional bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman passed away on Thursday due to a heart attack, his family confirmed.
According to his manager, Yadvinder Singh, Ghuman had been experiencing shoulder pain and had visited a private hospital in Amritsar for treatment. His nephew, Amanjot Singh Ghuman, said the actor suffered a heart attack at the hospital in the evening.
Ghuman, aged 41, had appeared in several Hindi films including Tiger-3 (2023) alongside Salman Khan, Roar: Tigers of Sundarbans (2014), and Marjaavan (2019). He also acted in the Punjabi film Kabaddi Once Again (2012).
Standing 6 feet 2 inches tall, Ghuman won the Mr India title in 2009 and was the runner-up at the Mr Asia pageant. A native of Gurdaspur, he resided in Jalandhar, where he also owned a gym. Known as a vegetarian bodybuilder, he regularly shared fitness and workout content on Instagram. He had also expressed plans to contest the Punjab assembly elections in 2027.
Politicians from across parties expressed grief over his passing.
Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu called Ghuman the “pride of Punjab” and said his death is “an irreparable loss for the country,” praising his dedication to fitness and vegetarian lifestyle.
Congress MP and former deputy CM Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said Ghuman brought glory to Punjab through his hard work and talent and prayed for strength for his family.
Congress MLA Pargat Singh remembered him as a disciplined vegetarian who inspired many, while Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal described his death as a tragic loss, highlighting Ghuman’s international achievements and dedication to fitness.
Varinder Singh Ghuman’s sudden demise has left the fitness and film community, as well as his fans across India, in deep mourning.
