India Claim Historic Bronze at BWF World Junior Team Championships 2025.
India’s remarkable run at the BWF World Junior Mixed Team Championships 2025 concluded with a historic bronze medal, marking the nation’s first-ever podium finish in the mixed-team category. Despite a spirited effort, the hosts fell to defending champions Indonesia in the semifinals on Friday.
India had already made history a day earlier by defeating former champions Korea to secure their maiden medal in the competition — a milestone moment for Indian junior badminton.
In the semifinals, India lost 35-45, 21-45 to a strong Indonesian side that will now face the winner of the other semifinal between China and Japan. Although the scoreline appeared one-sided, India’s young shuttlers displayed grit, energy, and teamwork throughout the tie.
The hosts made a single change to their lineup from the Korea tie, bringing in Vishakha Toppo for Aanya Bisht in mixed doubles. India began well, as Bhargav Ram Arigela and Viswa Tej Gobburu gave the team an early boost with a solid 9-5 win over Indonesia’s Muhammad Rizki Mubarrok and Raihan Daffa Pramono in boys’ doubles.
In girls’ singles, Unnati Hooda fought hard but couldn’t find her rhythm against Thalita Wiryawan, while world junior no. 1 Mohd Ubaidillah’s dominant display against Rounak Chouhan turned the tide Indonesia’s way.
India’s mixed doubles pair of Lalramsanga and Vishakha Toppo battled bravely to level at 28-28 but fell narrowly short as Indonesia pulled ahead to take the first set 45-35. From there, Indonesia maintained their momentum, sealing the second set and the tie.
Despite the defeat, India’s campaign was filled with promise and pride. The young squad demonstrated depth, resilience, and tactical maturity — a testament to the growing strength of India’s junior badminton program.
The focus now shifts to the individual championships, starting Monday, where several Indian players will look to build on this breakthrough team performance.
