Kantara Chapter 1 Worldwide Box Office: Rishab Shetty’s Film Crosses ₹650 Crore, Surpasses Baahubali and Sultan.

There’s no stopping Kantara Chapter 1. The Kannada period action drama has reached another milestone, surpassing the lifetime collections of SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali: The Beginning and edging closer to the ₹700-crore mark worldwide, despite a drop in earnings on its second Monday.

Box Office Update
On its 12th day in theatres, Kantara Chapter 1 saw a significant dip in collections, earning ₹13.50 crore net in India—a 64% drop from Sunday’s ₹39.75 crore. Nevertheless, a strong second weekend helped the film cross ₹450 crore in domestic earnings, bringing its total to ₹451.90 crore net (₹542 crore gross). Overseas, boosted by North American audiences, the film has grossed over $11 million.

Hombale Films reported that the second weekend alone brought in ₹146 crore gross, taking the worldwide collection to around ₹655–675 crore after 12 days. Trade estimates place the 12-day global total closer to ₹650 crore.

Beating the Biggies
Kantara Chapter 1 has now entered the top 20 highest-grossing Indian films of all time, currently ranking 17th. It has surpassed Salman Khan’s Sultan (₹628 crore) and Baahubali (₹650 crore). With a smaller budget than both, the film’s achievement is even more remarkable. It is also the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, closing in on Chhaava (₹808 crore).

About the Film
Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 is a prequel to the 2022 blockbuster Kantara, which earned ₹400 crore worldwide. Set a thousand years before the original story, the film has been praised for its storytelling, visuals, and performances. Alongside Shetty, it stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles.
