Kalyan Banerjee Dares BJP Leaders to Visit Dankuni Without Security as Voter List Revision Sparks Political Tensions in Bengal.

As the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls begins in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee has stirred fresh controversy by challenging senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Suvendu Adhikari and Sukanta Majumdar to visit Dankuni without their security cover.

Speaking at a public gathering, Banerjee said, “If they truly have a bond with the people, they should give up their CISF protection and come to Dankuni. Let’s see if they can even return from there.” He further added, “Come, Sukanta and Suvendu, bring your men; we’ll bring ours. Come without the police — we’ll also be there without the police. Let’s see how Amit Shah takes you out safely.”

The remarks have triggered a sharp escalation in Bengal’s already charged political atmosphere. Banerjee accused BJP leaders of “talking about public outreach while hiding behind security personnel,” saying they “trust their guards more than the people.”

Voter Roll Revision Begins in 12 States
The controversy coincides with the launch of the Election Commission of India’s Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls across 12 states, including West Bengal. The month-long exercise, running from November 4 to December 4, 2025, involves Block Level Officers (BLOs) conducting door-to-door verification, updating voter details, and removing duplicate or ineligible entries. The final voter list will be published in February 2026.

TMC Plans Protest Against SIR
The SIR drive has become a new political flashpoint in Bengal, with the TMC accusing the BJP of attempting to “influence and intimidate” voters through the process. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee are set to lead a protest march in Kolkata on November 4, alleging that the voter revision exercise is being misused for political gain.
