CSK eye Sanju Samson trade as RR deliberate on next move: Report

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly in advanced talks to secure one of the biggest trades of the IPL 2026 window.

Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper Sanju Samson could be on his way to Chennai in a blockbuster deal that might see Ravindra Jadeja heading back to Jaipur. Reports also suggest that England all-rounder Sam Curran may be included in the trade, strengthening Rajasthan’s all-round depth.

According to a report by PTI, a senior CSK official confirmed the franchise’s interest in Samson and revealed that discussions are ongoing. “Everyone knows we are interested in getting Sanju. We have expressed our interest during this trading window. RR’s management has said they are evaluating their options. We are hopeful Sanju will play for CSK,” the official said.

The move signals Chennai’s intent to plan for the post-Dhoni era. Samson, who has led Rajasthan since 2021 and remained a consistent performer with the bat, could serve as CSK’s long-term wicketkeeping and leadership option once Dhoni steps away.

On the other hand, Jadeja’s potential exit would be an emotional moment for CSK fans. The all-rounder has been an integral part of the team’s success over the years — contributing with both bat and ball, and even briefly captaining the franchise in 2022.

If the trade goes through, both teams will have to submit proposals to the IPL governing council and obtain written consent from all players involved.

For CSK, acquiring Samson would provide a stable middle-order and leadership continuity, while for RR, Jadeja’s return — 16 years after he first played for them in 2008–09 — could bring a wealth of experience and balance to their side.

With the trading window nearing its close, anticipation is building among fans, as this potential Samson–Jadeja swap could redefine the dynamics of both franchises heading into IPL 2026.
