The Delhi government on Thursday directed all government and private offices in the Capital to function with no more than 50% of their staff on-site, requiring the remaining employees to work from home.
The order, issued by the Department of Environment & Forests under Section 5 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986, is part of emergency measures activated under Stage III of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP).
The decision comes as Delhi continues to grapple with worsening air quality, with concentrations of PM2.5 and PM10 consistently exceeding safe limits during the peak winter period. Delhi, designated an air pollution control area since 1987, has been under escalating GRAP restrictions since mid-October, following directives from the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). The latest curbs aim to reduce vehicular and industrial emissions, which have contributed significantly to the city’s prolonged pollution spell.
