Ferrero’s Farewell to Alcaraz Sparks Speculation Over Shock Split
Former French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero’s farewell note to protege Carlos Alcaraz has fueled speculation that their shock split may not have been mutual. The duo ended their seven-year association on Wednesday.
Ferrero’s Instagram post reflected on their journey together and expressed gratitude, but a single line caught attention: “I wish I could have continued. I am convinced that good memories and good people always find a way to cross paths again.” Many interpreted this as a hint that the decision may have been one-sided, while others suggested personal circumstances may have influenced Ferrero’s departure.
The split comes after the most successful season of Alcaraz’s career, during which he won eight titles, including two Grand Slams, and finished the year as world No. 1.
Ferrero began coaching Alcaraz six years ago, when the Spaniard was just 15, after a brief stint with Alexander Zverev. His aim was to guide a young talent from the ground up—a role he fulfilled as Alcaraz rose to the top of the sport.
Though rumors about Ferrero’s health circulated earlier this year, he dismissed them, calling them “idle gossip.” The exact reason behind the split remains unclear and may emerge only with time.
