Netanyahu Holds Coalition Meeting After Objecting to White House Gaza Panel

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened a meeting of his ruling coalition on Sunday after raising objections to the composition of a White House–backed Gaza advisory panel, according to officials and media reports.

The Gaza Executive Board, announced this week, is part of a broader “Board of Peace” chaired by US President Donald Trump under his 20-point plan to end the war in Gaza. The executive board includes Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Qatari diplomat Ali Al-Thawadi, along with other regional and international figures.

Netanyahu’s office said late Saturday:

“The announcement regarding the Gaza Executive Board was not coordinated with Israel and runs contrary to its policy.”

The Prime Minister has instructed Foreign Affairs Minister Eli Cohen to raise the matter with the US Secretary of State, though Israel has not detailed its objections. Analysts suggest Israel’s objection stems from Turkey’s role, amid deteriorating ties since the Gaza war began in October 2023.

Coalition leaders, including members of Likud, the Religious Zionist Party, and Otzma Yehudit, are expected to discuss the panel’s composition during the meeting.

The White House plan envisions three bodies: the Board of Peace (chaired by Trump), a Palestinian technocratic committee governing Gaza, and the advisory Gaza Executive Board. The Palestinian committee held its first meeting in Cairo on Saturday.

The developments coincide with the US moving the Gaza truce plan into a second phase, shifting focus from ceasefire enforcement to Hamas disarmament, following the October 7, 2023, attacks that triggered Israel’s Gaza offensive.
