Former US President Bill Clinton has called for a public hearing in the House Oversight Committee’s investigation into convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, describing the probe as “pure politics.”
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Clinton criticised Republicans leading the investigation and argued that any testimony should be held openly. Earlier this week, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton also said she favoured a public hearing.
Both Bill and Hillary Clinton are expected to testify later this month before the House Oversight Committee, which is conducting its own investigation into Epstein’s sex trafficking network and the prominent individuals linked to him.
“I have called for the full release of the Epstein files. I have provided a sworn statement of what I know. And just this week, I’ve agreed to appear in person before the committee,” Bill Clinton wrote. “But it’s still not enough for Republicans on the House Oversight Committee.”
Clinton took aim at Committee Chairman James Comer, saying he wanted cameras but only in closed-door proceedings. “Who benefits from this arrangement? It’s not Epstein’s victims, who deserve justice. Not the public, who deserve the truth. It serves only partisan interests,” he wrote, adding that the investigation was “not fact-finding” but “pure politics.”
“I will not sit idly as they use me as a prop in a closed-door kangaroo court,” Clinton said, urging lawmakers to conduct the hearing publicly so “the American people can see for themselves what this is really about.”
The committee is examining what the Clintons may have known about Epstein and his associate Ghislaine Maxwell. Both Bill and Hillary Clinton have stated that they had no knowledge of Epstein’s sexual abuse of underage girls before prosecutors filed charges against him.
