Australia 108/1 (9.4 overs) beat Oman 104 all out (16.2 overs) by nine wickets in the Group B match at Pallekele.
Captain Mitchell Marsh and opener Travis Head powered Australia national cricket team to a commanding victory over Oman national cricket team, ensuring they signed off their T20 World Cup campaign on a winning note.
Already out of semifinal contention following defeats to Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka, Australia produced a clinical all-round display. After being put in to bat, Oman never gained momentum and were bundled out for 104 in 16.2 overs.
Adam Zampa spearheaded the bowling effort with four wickets, rediscovering his touch at a crucial moment. Xavier Bartlett made an immediate impact by striking with the first ball of the match, while Nathan Ellis and Glenn Maxwell chipped in to ensure Oman never recovered from early setbacks.
Wasim Ali top-scored with 32, but regular wickets derailed any hopes of a competitive total. Oman were 47 for 3 at the end of the Powerplay and struggled to build partnerships as Australia maintained relentless pressure. Zampa’s quicker deliveries proved particularly effective, dismantling the middle and lower order.
In reply, Marsh and Head turned the chase into a formality. The pair added 93 runs for the opening stand, attacking from the outset and peppering the boundary. Marsh remained unbeaten on 64 off 33 balls, striking seven fours and four sixes, while Head made 32 off 19 deliveries.
Australia raced past the target in just 9.4 overs, completing one of the fastest chases of the tournament and restoring some pride after an otherwise disappointing campaign.
