UP Man Critically Injured in Saudi Residential Strike, Family Appeals for Help
A 27-year-old man from Moradabad, Uttar Pradesh, is fighting for his life after being severely injured in a military strike that hit a residential area in Al-Kharj, Saudi Arabia, amid escalating tensions in West Asia, officials said.
The victim, Mohd Azam, a resident of Jafraabad village in Thakurdwara, had been working in Saudi Arabia as a diesel mechanic for the past three-and-a-half years. He is currently on ventilator support at a government hospital in Riyadh.
Azam’s family has appealed to the Indian government for assistance in ensuring proper medical care and facilitating his return home. His brother, Kasim Ali, said, “He had gone there to earn a livelihood. Now he is badly injured and on a ventilator. We are poor and request the government to help with his treatment and bring him back home.”
The incident occurred when a military projectile struck a residential site belonging to a maintenance and cleaning company in Al-Kharj governorate. The attack killed two Bangladeshi nationals and injured 11 others, including Azam, and caused property damage. Earlier reports had incorrectly suggested an Indian national had died, but the Indian Embassy in Riyadh confirmed that no Indian citizen was killed. An embassy official visited Azam in the hospital to check on his condition.
The Indian mission has advised all Indian nationals in Saudi Arabia to remain vigilant and follow local safety guidelines amid rising tensions in the Gulf region. The unrest escalated after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran on February 28, prompting retaliatory actions from Tehran.
Azam’s family continues to seek urgent government intervention to secure his treatment and safe return to India.
