Travel Alert: 4 Indian Airports, Including Jodhpur Airport and Srinagar Airport, Set for Temporary Shutdowns — Full Schedule Inside

If you’re planning air travel in the coming months, it’s worth double-checking your itinerary. Several key Indian airports are set for temporary shutdowns due to scheduled runway repairs, which could disrupt civil flight operations.

According to reports cited by Hindustan Times, four airports—Jodhpur Airport, Srinagar Airport, Pune Airport, and Adampur Air Base—will undergo phased closures as part of a recarpeting plan. These airports are operated by the Indian Air Force and must meet stricter technical standards to handle both military and civilian aircraft.

Jodhpur to shut first

Operations at Jodhpur Airport will be suspended from March 29 to April 27. Major carriers like IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express have already stopped accepting bookings beyond March 28, signalling a significant impact on travel plans.

Srinagar to see staggered disruptions

At Srinagar Airport, closures will be phased. The airport is expected to shut on weekends from August to mid-October, followed by a complete closure from October 16 to November 5.

Pune and Adampur next

Pune Airport will also undergo runway upgrades, though exact dates are yet to be announced. Travellers should be prepared for disruptions once the schedule is finalised.

Meanwhile, Adampur Air Base could face one of the longest shutdowns—reportedly up to eight months—likely toward the end of the year.

Why the shutdowns matter

Unlike purely civilian hubs, these airports are shared with the military. Runways must be maintained to handle fighter jets and other defence aircraft, making periodic upgrades essential—especially at strategically important locations near sensitive border regions.

Authorities have already issued NOTAMs (Notice to Air Missions) for some closures, and airlines were informed well in advance. Still, passengers should expect fewer flights, rerouting, and possible delays during these periods.
