Tulsi Gabbard has announced her resignation as the United States Director of National Intelligence, citing her husband’s serious health condition as the reason for stepping down.

Gabbard shared her resignation letter addressed to Donald Trump on social media, stating that her resignation will take effect on June 30, 2026.

In the letter, she revealed that her husband, Abraham, had recently been diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer and would require significant support during treatment and recovery.

“Unfortunately, I must submit my resignation, effective June 30, 2026. My husband, Abraham, has recently been diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer,” Gabbard wrote.

She added that she could not continue in such a demanding national security role while her husband faced a major health battle.

“His strength and love have sustained me through every challenge. I cannot in good conscience ask him to face this fight alone while I continue in this demanding and time-consuming position,” she said.

Thanks Trump for support
Gabbard also thanked Trump for appointing her to lead the US intelligence community and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve in the administration.

As Director of National Intelligence, Gabbard oversaw coordination among multiple American intelligence agencies and was one of the most high-profile Indian-origin figures in Trump’s administration.

Trump praises Gabbard
Trump later responded to the announcement in a post on Truth Social, praising Gabbard’s work and expressing support for her family.

“She has done an incredible job. We will miss her,” Trump wrote, while also wishing Abraham a successful recovery.

The US President confirmed that Aaron Lukas will serve as Acting Director of National Intelligence following Gabbard’s departure.
