Accused’s Father Denies Son’s Role In Pune Fort Murder, Claims He Is Being Framed

The father of Chetan Chowdhury, one of the accused in the alleged murder of Pune businessman Ketan Vishal Agrawal, has defended his son and claimed that he is being falsely implicated in the case.

Speaking after Chetan’s arrest, Babulal Chowdhury said his son had left home on June 18 after telling his mother that he was going for a business meeting and would return later in the day. According to him, the family had no knowledge of the events that allegedly unfolded at Lohagad Fort until police detained Chetan.

Rejecting the allegations, Babulal said Chetan had repeatedly maintained his innocence. “He told me he did not push Ketan and was standing far away when the incident happened,” he said.

Babulal further claimed that his son told him Siya Goyal was standing closest to Agrawal before he fell into the valley. However, he stopped short of accusing her and said he did not know what exactly had happened at the fort.

The accused’s father also said the family had never met Siya before the case surfaced and that he first saw her after the arrests were made.

Maintaining that Chetan had no role in the alleged murder, Babulal said, “My son is being framed. He has nothing to do with this.” He described Chetan as a hardworking and sincere young man who regularly assisted at the family’s shop.

He also questioned the manner in which police informed the family about the case. According to Babulal, officers initially told him that his son had been detained in connection with a fraud-related matter and that he would be released shortly. It was only later, he claimed, that the family was informed that the case involved a murder investigation.

Police Allege Weeks-Long Conspiracy

The father’s assertions stand in stark contrast to the findings of the ongoing investigation.

According to police sources, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chowdhury allegedly conspired to kill Agrawal and executed the plan at Lohagad Fort on June 18. Investigators believe the plot was planned over several weeks and involved multiple failed attempts before the incident.

Police suspect that preparations began after earlier visits to Lohagad Fort, which investigators believe may have been used to survey the location. The probe has also uncovered details of a cancelled Bali trip and other developments that investigators say form part of the alleged conspiracy.

According to police, Agrawal was taken to Lohagad Fort on June 18, where Chowdhury was already present. Investigators allege that the two accused pushed him into a valley, resulting in his death.

The investigation remains underway, with Pune Rural Police continuing to examine the sequence of events and the alleged involvement of the accused.
