Cocktail 2 Crosses Rs 100 Crore Worldwide, Faces Crucial Test At Domestic Box Office
Director Homi Adajania’s Cocktail 2 has achieved a significant box office milestone, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark worldwide within six days of its release. However, while the Shahid Kapoor-led romantic drama continues to perform strongly overseas, its momentum in India has slowed after a solid opening weekend.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film collected Rs 5 crore on its sixth day, taking its total India net collection to Rs 66 crore. After opening strongly, the film witnessed a notable drop on Monday and has since struggled to regain momentum during the weekdays.
Despite the slowdown domestically, Cocktail 2 has managed to gross Rs 102.76 crore worldwide, becoming one of the latest Bollywood releases to enter the coveted Rs 100 crore club.
India Collections Show Signs Of Slowdown
The film enjoyed healthy collections during its opening weekend, driven by curiosity surrounding the sequel and its star cast. However, weekday trends indicate that audience footfalls have moderated considerably.
Trade estimates suggest the film is likely to finish its first week with an India net collection of around Rs 70-71 crore. While those numbers remain respectable, the coming weekend is expected to determine whether the film can maintain a steady theatrical run.
Industry reports estimate the film’s budget at approximately Rs 150 crore, although the makers have not officially disclosed the production cost.
Competition Set To Increase
The road ahead may become more challenging for Cocktail 2 with the release of Welcome To The Jungle this Friday.
The multi-starrer comedy, led by Akshay Kumar, is expected to attract a large section of family audiences and could impact screen allocation as well as box office collections for existing releases. As a result, the second weekend will be crucial for Cocktail 2 to strengthen its domestic earnings.
Mixed Word-Of-Mouth
The film has received a mixed response from critics and audiences since hitting theatres.
While several viewers have appreciated its music, visuals and performances, others have drawn comparisons with the 2012 original and questioned whether the sequel captures the same charm and emotional appeal.
The divided reception appears to be reflected in the film’s weekday performance, making sustained audience interest critical for its long-term box office prospects.
For now, crossing Rs 100 crore worldwide is a major achievement for Cocktail 2. The focus will now shift to its second weekend, which could determine whether the film emerges as a clear box office success or faces an uphill battle in the weeks ahead.
