In an emotional interview with India Today TV, Praveen Goyal, the father of Siya Goyal.

The prime accused in the alleged murder of her fiancé Ketan Agarwal, said his daughter should face the harshest punishment if she is found guilty, even stating that she deserved the death penalty.

His remarks came days after Pune Police alleged that Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary, conspired to murder Ketan by pushing him into a gorge at Lohagad Fort on June 18. Both accused are currently in judicial custody.

Speaking to India Today TV, Praveen Goyal said he was still unable to believe the allegations against his daughter, adding that the shock of her arrest had landed him in the intensive care unit.

“I still find it impossible to believe my daughter could do something like this. She never lied to me and always followed the right path,” he said.

Despite his disbelief, Goyal insisted that justice should take precedence over his emotions as a father. “If my daughter is found guilty, the court should not delay justice. She should be given the strictest punishment,” he said.

He went on to make an even stronger statement, saying that if the allegations were proved, his daughter deserved the same fate that police claim Ketan suffered.

“If she is found guilty, take her to the same fort and push her off the same place. That is all a father can say,” he said, before adding, “Yes, she can be given the death penalty.”

Even after making those remarks, Goyal maintained that he could not reconcile the accusations with the daughter he had known.

“I simply cannot believe she could have done something like this,” he said.

Siya’s parents also said they had never noticed any signs of trouble between the couple.

“They used to video call each other, meet regularly and appeared happy together. Ketan even came home for dinner. We never got any indication that something was wrong,” her mother, Pooja Goyal.

Rejecting claims that Siya was unwilling to marry Ketan, Pooja Goyal said the family had spent nearly Rs 50,000 shopping for a planned pre-wedding trip to Bali.

“If she had told us she didn’t want to marry Ketan, why would we have spent so much on wedding shopping?” she said.

Praveen Goyal said Ketan was like a son to the family and that both families had been eagerly preparing for the wedding.

“Ketan was like a son to me. Whatever has happened is deeply tragic. Even today we cannot bring ourselves to believe it,” he said.

He also rejected allegations made by Ketan’s father that Siya’s family had concealed facts from them, saying they had no inkling of problems in the relationship or of any alleged affair involving their daughter.

Describing Siya as a “simple girl”, Goyal said she had always appeared excited about her upcoming wedding.

According to Pune Police, Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary allegedly plotted Ketan Agarwal’s murder after she decided against calling off the engagement because she feared it would bring shame to her family. Investigators claim the two pushed Ketan into a gorge at Lohagad Fort after earlier failed attempts to kill him. The investigation is ongoing.
