Bengaluru Teen Alleges Assault by Masked Men After Participating in NEET-UG Protest

A 19-year-old student has alleged that he was assaulted by four masked men in Bengaluru’s Jalahalli area on Thursday night, days after participating in protests over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak.

According to a police complaint accessed by CNN-News18, the student was taking a walk near BEL Circle after dinner when four unidentified men arrived on a motorcycle, confronted him and allegedly asked, “Do you want Prime Minister Narendra Modi to resign?”

The complainant alleged that the men then abused him and struck his leg with a wooden log before fleeing the scene. He sustained a serious leg injury in the attack.

The student, who is associated with a student organisation, has filed a complaint at the Jalahalli Police Station. Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and launched an investigation to identify the attackers and ascertain the motive behind the alleged assault.

According to the complaint, the victim had recently participated in demonstrations in Bengaluru over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak controversy.

NEET-UG Protest Movement

The nationwide agitation over the alleged NEET-UG 2026 paper leak was spearheaded by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), with protests beginning in late June. Climate activist Sonam Wangchuk later joined the movement and announced an indefinite hunger strike on June 28, demanding broader education reforms and the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

The protests intensified on July 20 when the CJP organised the ‘Sansad Chalo’ march to coincide with the start of Parliament’s Monsoon Session. Thousands of students from across the country joined the demonstration, pressing for reforms in the examination system and greater accountability.

The agitation eventually concluded with Dharmendra Pradhan stepping down as Union Education Minister and the Centre announcing its commitment to introducing reforms aimed at improving transparency and accountability in competitive examinations.
