Iran President Pezeshkian Dismisses Health Reports, Says Mojtaba Khamenei Is ‘Completely Healthy’

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian has dismissed reports about Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei’s health, saying he is “completely healthy”, Iran’s ISNA news agency reported.

Pezeshkian made the remarks after meeting Khamenei and described their discussion as “very good”. He also cited the duration of the meeting as an indication that the Supreme Leader was in good health.

“Someone who can sit and discuss for seven to eight hours cannot have any health problems,” Pezeshkian said.

On Sunday, Iran’s semi-official Mehr News Agency released an undated video appearing to show Khamenei in good health. The footage emerged after reports in Israeli media claimed that the Supreme Leader was in critical condition and had been hospitalised.

On Friday, Israeli media outlets reported that Khamenei was in an “extremely critical condition”. Channel 14, citing sources inside Iran, and The Jerusalem Post, citing IranWire and sources close to the Pezeshkian administration, reported that concerns about his health had emerged within Iran’s leadership.

Iranian officials have since sought to counter the reports, with Pezeshkian offering the latest public reassurance.

Major Security Reshuffle Announced

The health clarification came alongside significant changes within Iran’s political and national-security establishment.

Khamenei appointed former Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Secretary Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr as his political adviser. Veteran Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohsen Rezaei was also appointed to a senior position at the SNSC.

Reports said Rezaei would take over as SNSC secretary from Zolghadr.

In posts on X on Sunday, Khamenei announced the appointments and highlighted the experience of both officials. “In consideration of your valuable experience, I hereby appoint you to be my Political Advisor,” Khamenei said while appointing Zolghadr.

He also praised Zolghadr’s previous work, referring to his “round-the-clock efforts”.

Announcing Rezaei’s appointment, Khamenei highlighted his military background and noted that he was among the early commanders during Iran’s eight-year war with Iraq.

Why The Reshuffle Matters

Zolghadr assumed the SNSC secretary’s position in March following the killing of Ali Larijani and subsequently emerged as a prominent figure within Iran’s hardline security establishment.

The latest appointments come at a sensitive time for Iran, with continued attention on the country’s leadership and national-security decision-making.
