Trump Confirms Plane Switch in Turkey After Security Threat Warning

US President Donald Trump has confirmed that he changed aircraft during his recent trip to Turkey after the US Secret Service and military advised him to do so, citing a potential security threat.

Speaking to reporters after returning from Ohio, Trump said he did not seek extensive details about the threat and instead followed the recommendations of his security team.

“I go by Secret Service and the military. They wanted me to go on a different flight, a different plane… I do what they say,” Trump said.

He added that he believed there had been a threat but said he did not ask many questions about it, noting that he receives numerous threats.

Why Did Trump Switch Planes in Turkey?

Trump’s remarks followed reports about a series of unusual aircraft changes during his recent Turkey visit. He had initially travelled aboard the Qatar-gifted Boeing 747-8 before reportedly switching to an older Air Force One aircraft following a security concern.

According to a report by The Washington Post, Trump was later discreetly moved from the aircraft in a catering container before being transferred to a smaller C-32A aircraft. The White House had not initially provided a detailed public explanation for the aircraft changes.

What Did Trump Say About the Threat?

Trump said he relies on the Secret Service and the military to assess security risks and determine what precautions are necessary. He indicated that some of the threats against him are not publicly known.

“I get a lot of threats,” Trump said.

He then connected the threats to what he described as his significance as president, arguing that presidents who have little impact do not attract the same level of threats.

“Non-consequential Presidents don’t get threatened, and I think I’m maybe the most consequential President,” Trump said.
