Disha Salian Death Case: Bombay HC Orders CBI Probe, Directs FIR Registration

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday ordered a CBI probe into the death of Disha Salian.

The former manager of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, directing the agency to register an FIR and investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.

A division bench of Justices Sarang Kotwal and Ranjitsinha Bhonsale directed the CBI to appoint a senior and experienced officer to conduct the investigation under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The order followed a petition filed by Satish Salian, Disha Salian’s father, who alleged lapses in the Mumbai Police investigation into his daughter’s death in June 2020.

The court, however, clarified that no individual should be treated as an accused unless the investigating officer finds sufficient material against them during the probe.

Court Raises Questions Over Police Investigation

The High Court had earlier expressed concern over the registration of only an Accidental Death Report (ADR), despite the family having submitted a complaint alleging gang rape and murder.

The court also noted that copies of the post-mortem report and ADR had allegedly not been provided to Disha Salian’s family even five years after her death.

Salian, 28, died in June 2020 after allegedly falling from the 14th floor of a high-rise building in Mumbai’s suburban Malad area. Her death had subsequently become the subject of several allegations and questions surrounding the circumstances of the incident.

The latest order now places the investigation with the CBI, which will examine the circumstances leading to Salian’s death and take further action based on the evidence uncovered during the probe.
