India Summons Pakistani Diplomat Over Infiltration, Rejects ‘Baseless’ Civilian Claim
The Ministry of External Affairs on Saturday summoned Pakistan’s Chargé d’Affaires and lodged a strong protest over what it described as continued cross-border infiltration from Pakistan.
The diplomatic action came a day after Border Security Force personnel shot dead two suspected Pakistani intruders near the International Border in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district.
According to Indian authorities, three individuals had crossed into Indian territory and continued moving towards the border fence despite repeated warnings from BSF personnel. One of them later returned to Pakistan, while the other two allegedly continued advancing towards the Indian side.
The BSF said its personnel opened fire after the two men failed to respond to repeated warnings and were considered an imminent security threat.
India Flags Alleged Infiltration And Drug Smuggling Network
During the diplomatic protest, India highlighted what the MEA described as a recurring pattern involving cross-border movement by armed narcotics syndicates operating from Pakistan.
New Delhi called on Islamabad to investigate the infiltration incidents, alleged drug-smuggling activities and any involvement of Pakistani border forces.
India also urged Pakistan to take corrective measures to prevent similar incidents in the future and ensure that its forces maintain effective control over movement along the International Border.
The MEA further called on Pakistan to respect the sanctity of the border and adhere to existing bilateral arrangements.
India Rejects Pakistan’s Version Of Incident
India rejected Pakistan’s description of the two men as civilians who accidentally crossed the border, calling the allegation “baseless and motivated”.
Pakistan had earlier summoned India’s Chargé d’Affaires to protest the deaths and accused BSF personnel of using unprovoked lethal force against “unarmed civilians”.
India, however, maintained that the individuals had ignored repeated warnings and continued moving towards the Indian side.
What Happened Along The Punjab Border?
Tarn Taran Deputy Superintendent of Police Atul Soni said three suspected intruders were seen moving towards Indian territory near the border.
According to the police official, one of the three individuals turned back and crossed into Pakistan, while the other two continued advancing despite repeated warnings from BSF personnel.
The two men allegedly also provoked the troops and stated that they intended to enter Indian territory. The BSF subsequently opened fire, killing both of them.
The identities of the two deceased men have not been disclosed so far.
