Bypoll Results: Counting Underway for Six Key Seats Across Four Regions
The counting of votes is underway for six by-elections covering five Assembly constituencies and one Lok Sabha seat across West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Assam. The results are being closely watched as candidates from major political parties compete for the vacant seats following intense campaigns and substantial voter participation.
The bypolls have drawn attention because of their political significance, changes in party affiliations and contests involving prominent regional leaders. The outcomes will determine the representatives for the constituencies and provide an indication of local political trends.
West Bengal: Contests in Nandigram and Rejinagar
In West Bengal, Nandigram and Rejinagar are among the constituencies attracting attention during the counting process.
Nandigram witnessed a contest involving BJP candidate Hasirani Rath and Congress nominee Milan Pradhan, who received support from the Trinamool Congress (TMC) camp, along with candidates from the CPI and a rival TMC faction. The by-election followed Suvendu Adhikari’s decision to vacate the seat and retain Bhabanipur.
Rejinagar also saw a multi-cornered contest involving the BJP, TMC, Congress, CPI(M) and Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP). Voter turnout stood at 80.89% in Nandigram and 80% in Rejinagar, reflecting strong participation in both constituencies.
