South Africa captain Temba Bavuma has credited his team’s fighting spirit and resilience for their impressive 2-1 Test series victory over Australia.

The Proteas recovered from a heavy 214-run defeat in the opening match in Durban to win the next two Tests and clinch the series.

Reflecting on the closely fought contest, Bavuma praised Australia’s performance but highlighted how his players responded under pressure. According to the South African skipper, the team’s ability to raise their game when facing difficult situations played a major role in securing the series.

Bavuma described the 15 days of cricket as an exciting battle between two quality teams, with both sides repeatedly finding ways to challenge each other.

He also acknowledged the contribution of Australian captain Pat Cummins and his players, while pointing out that resilience has long been a defining feature of South African cricket.

The Proteas faced an early setback after Australia secured a commanding win in Durban to take a 1-0 lead. However, the visitors responded emphatically in the second Test at Gqeberha, defeating Australia by an innings and 31 runs to bring the series level.

The deciding Test in Cape Town proved equally challenging. Australia established a 100-run first-innings advantage and appeared to be in a strong position. However, South Africa staged another impressive comeback, eventually winning by 176 runs to seal the series 2-1.

The series victory also marked a significant achievement for South African cricket, as the team returned to the No.1 position in the ICC Test rankings for the first time in a decade.

Bavuma expressed satisfaction with the accomplishment, describing it as an important part of the team’s long-term ambitions. He said the players are committed to improving standards and ensuring that the Proteas badge continues to gain recognition.

The captain also indicated that the team would celebrate the milestone, which represents another major step in its journey in Test cricket.

South Africa will now turn its attention to the upcoming home Test series against Bangladesh. The opening match is scheduled to begin on November 15 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg, while the second Test will take place at SuperSport Park in Centurion from November 23 to 27.
