Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 Creates Box Office History, Crosses ₹800 Crore Worldwide to Become Tamil Cinema’s Biggest Hit
Jailer 2 Box Office: Rajinikanth Creates History With ₹808 Crore Worldwide Collection, Beats PK and Chhaava
Superstar Rajinikanth has achieved a major milestone at the age of 75, as his latest film, Jailer 2, has crossed the ₹800-crore mark at the worldwide box office. The achievement makes it the first Tamil film to enter the prestigious ₹800-crore club, setting a new benchmark for the Tamil film industry.
Directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, the film has maintained a strong run in theatres despite completing more than two weeks of its theatrical release. Its impressive performance has also helped it surpass the lifetime worldwide collections of Bollywood blockbusters such as Aamir Khan’s PK and Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava.
With Ramayana scheduled to release this Friday, competition at the box office is expected to intensify. However, Jailer 2 has already secured a historic position among the biggest Indian cinematic successes.
Jailer 2 Box Office Collection: Film Crosses ₹800 Crore
Jailer 2 started its box office journey with a massive response, collecting approximately ₹400 crore during its extended four-day opening weekend. The film benefited from the Navratri and Dussehra holiday period, which helped maintain audience interest during its first week.
Its performance remained encouraging in the following weeks. After a strong second weekend, the film witnessed a recovery during its third weekend following a midweek slowdown.
On Sunday, its 18th day in theatres, the Rajinikanth-starrer collected approximately ₹11.50 crore net in India. This took its third-weekend earnings to ₹26.40 crore.
According to the reported figures, the film’s total domestic collection reached ₹456 crore net, equivalent to approximately ₹533 crore gross.
It has also created a regional box office record, becoming the first Tamil film to collect more than ₹450 crore in India. Another notable achievement is that it has crossed the ₹60-crore mark in each of the four major southern markets: Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh-Telangana.
Overseas Performance Takes Jailer 2 to New Heights
The film’s international performance has played an equally important role in its worldwide success.
Rajinikanth’s popularity across Southeast Asia, the Middle East and North America has helped Jailer 2 attract audiences beyond India. Its overseas earnings have reached nearly $29 million, putting it close to the international performance reported for Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar.
With its domestic and international collections combined, Jailer 2 has accumulated approximately ₹808 crore worldwide.
This achievement makes it the first Tamil production to cross the ₹800-crore worldwide box office milestone, giving the film a special place in the history of Tamil cinema.
Jailer 2 Beats PK and Chhaava at Worldwide Box Office
The film’s third-weekend performance has also helped it overtake several successful Hindi films in worldwide collections.
With its ₹808-crore total, Jailer 2 has moved past Aamir Khan’s PK, which collected approximately ₹769 crore, and Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava, which earned around ₹807 crore worldwide.
Surpassing these films highlights the scale of Rajinikanth’s latest box office success and the growing reach of Tamil cinema in the domestic and international markets.
Can Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 Reach ₹850 Crore?
The next few days will be important in determining how far Jailer 2 can extend its theatrical run.
The film could experience a decline in collections on weekdays, while the arrival of Ramayana on Thursday is expected to increase competition for screens and audiences.
Despite these challenges, its current worldwide earnings have raised expectations that it could approach the ₹850-crore milestone.
If the momentum continues, Jailer 2 could also move past the worldwide lifetime collections of Kantara Chapter One and Stree 2.
At 75, Rajinikanth has once again demonstrated his extraordinary box office appeal, with Jailer 2 delivering a historic achievement for Tamil cinema and establishing itself among the biggest Indian films worldwide.
