Ramayana Box Office Expectations: Ranbir Kapoor’s Epic Eyes Rs 100 Crore Opening, Rs 3,000 Crore Lifetime Collection

Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Ramayana is generating massive box-office expectations ahead of its theatrical release, with industry experts predicting an opening-day collection of Rs 75-100 crore across languages. If the film connects with audiences, its lifetime worldwide earnings could potentially reach Rs 1,000 crore to Rs 3,000 crore.

Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the ambitious cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic features Ranbir Kapoor as Lord Rama, Sai Pallavi as Goddess Sita and Yash as Ravana. With a star-studded cast, international technical expertise and a story deeply embedded in India’s cultural heritage, the film is being viewed as one of the most ambitious Indian productions.

Veteran exhibitors believe the film’s box-office performance will depend largely on its ability to connect emotionally with audiences, particularly devotees of Lord Rama.

Faith Factor Could Drive Ramayana’s Box Office

Vishek Chauhan, owner of Roopbani Cinema in Purnia, Bihar, believes Ramayana cannot be assessed using conventional film-review parameters because audiences may approach it from a perspective of faith and devotion.

He said the film belongs to a different category of cinema, with its subject matter carrying immense religious and emotional significance.

According to Chauhan, if the film successfully connects with devotees, critical reviews may have limited influence on its theatrical performance.

Citing the success of faith-based films such as Hanuman Ansh, Karuppu and Irumudi, he highlighted the commercial potential of religious storytelling.

Chauhan believes Ramayana could earn between Rs 2,500 crore and Rs 3,000 crore in India if it attracts a large section of the Hindu audience.

Exhibitors Expect a Record-Breaking Performance

Distributor and exhibitor Raj Bansal also believes Ramayana has the potential to become one of India’s biggest cinematic releases.

He suggested that the film could surpass the reported box-office performance of the Dhurandhar franchise.

Bansal pointed to the cultural importance of Lord Rama and the connection between the story and Diwali celebrations as factors that could encourage audiences to visit cinemas.

Exhibitor Akshaye Rathi said the film has the potential to establish new box-office records because of its scale, technical quality and emotional appeal.

He believes the film’s long-term success will depend on how effectively its storytelling resonates with audiences across the country.

Over One Lakh Tickets Sold, 1,600 Opening-Day Shows Planned

The initial response to advance bookings has also generated optimism among cinema operators.

Ashish Misra, Head of Commercialisation at Cinepolis India, said the multiplex chain had already sold more than one lakh tickets and was planning over 1,600 shows on the opening day.

However, he cautioned that the festive calendar could influence initial collections.

With Dhanteras on Friday, Choti Diwali on Saturday and Diwali on Sunday, family celebrations and religious activities could affect cinema attendance, particularly during evening shows.

He expects Monday to provide a clearer indication of the film’s regular box-office performance.

Miraj Cinemas executive Munshi said advance demand was particularly encouraging in Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, while smaller cities were also performing better than anticipated.

The cinema chain plans to screen the film across 225 screens, with approximately 960 daily shows in Hindi, Kannada, Telugu and Tamil.

IMAX and 3D Formats Generate Interest

Premium theatrical formats are also attracting attention, with advance bookings showing encouraging demand for IMAX and 3D screenings.

Akshaye Rathi said IMAX ticket prices in some locations were reaching Rs 3,000 or more, although regular ticket prices would be considerably lower, starting at around Rs 200.

Pricing will vary depending on the city and cinema format, with several theatres maintaining family-friendly rates during the festive period.

Southern Market Presents a Different Challenge

While expectations remain high in several parts of India, trade experts believe the film could face competition in southern markets.

The release of Suriya’s Scene and Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 could affect Ramayana’s performance in the region.

Chennai-based trade analyst Ramesh Bala believes the film has stronger buzz in Karnataka, partly because of Yash’s popularity. Sai Pallavi’s presence could also attract audiences in other southern markets.

He estimates that Ramayana could collect approximately Rs 30-40 crore from the South Indian market, while emphasising that word of mouth will play a significant role.

Rakesh Gothwaman of Vettri theatres in Chennai said the film would initially receive screenings in both Hindi and southern languages, although the regional releases could command greater attention from Friday onwards.

Star Cast, Music and International VFX Add to the Scale

Apart from its prominent cast, Ramayana has attracted attention for its technical collaboration.

The film features music by Oscar-winning composers A R Rahman and Hans Zimmer, while visual effects are being handled by Oscar-winning VFX company DNEG.

Nitesh Tiwari, known for directing Dangal and Chhichhore, is helming the project. Namit Malhotra and Yash are among its producers.

Ultimately, Ramayana’s box-office journey will depend on audience reception, repeat viewership and the strength of its word-of-mouth publicity.

With opening-day estimates ranging between Rs 75 crore and Rs 100 crore and lifetime projections reaching as high as Rs 3,000 crore, the film is entering theatres with enormous expectations.
