The Adani Group has been named an official partner for World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development (WED) 2026, a global observance recognised by UNESCO and delivered by the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO).

The recognition marks the first time an Indian organisation has been selected by the WFEO as a partner for the global event celebrating the role of engineers in sustainable development. The partnership spotlights the Khavda Renewable Energy Park in Gujarat, which WFEO has highlighted as a major example of India’s energy transition. The project, currently under development in the Kutch region, is expected to become the world’s largest renewable energy plant.

The project is being led by Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) in collaboration with Adani Energy Solutions and Adani New Industries. The facility is being built across around 538 square kilometres of barren land—an area roughly five times the size of Paris.

Commenting on the recognition, Sagar Adani said the project demonstrates how large-scale clean energy can be both affordable and inclusive. He added that the Khavda plant reflects India’s climate ambitions and showcases the combined capabilities of the Adani Group’s renewable and energy infrastructure businesses.

The theme for WED 2026 is “Smart engineering for a sustainable future through innovation and digitalisation.” According to the organisers, the Adani Group’s work in renewable energy, digital infrastructure and large-scale transport and utility systems aligns with the theme’s focus on technology-driven solutions for sustainable development.

Once completed, the Khavda project is expected to have a planned capacity of 30 GW by 2029, making it the world’s largest renewable energy park. WFEO has also featured the project in its World Engineering Day 2026 programme, including a short film highlighting its scale, engineering challenges and potential impact on the global energy transition.
