Actress Akshara Singh has publicly voiced support for Jyoti Singh, the estranged wife of actor-politician Pawan Singh, amid their ongoing matrimonial dispute.
Akshara, who was previously in a relationship with Pawan Singh, said Jyoti’s demand for alimony is justified and emphasised that divorced women should receive fair financial support without arbitrary limits.
“Whenever a girl gets married and builds a life with someone, it becomes a shared responsibility. At the same time, it is her right to receive alimony, and she should get it fully,” Akshara said. She added that the amount sought should not be trivialised, arguing that even substantial sums may not compensate for emotional and personal loss.
Jyoti Singh has formally sought interim and permanent alimony as part of the ongoing legal proceedings. In her petition, she has argued that she is entitled to maintenance under Indian matrimonial laws, citing a significant disparity in income, lifestyle, and earning capacity between herself and her husband.
According to reports based on court filings, Jyoti has stated that she lacks an independent source of income sufficient to maintain a standard of living comparable to that enjoyed during the marriage. She has also alleged emotional distress and marital discord, claiming the breakdown of the marriage occurred due to circumstances beyond her control.
Her plea includes financial support for daily living expenses, legal costs, and long-term security. Pawan Singh has contested the claims and filed responses challenging the extent and basis of the maintenance sought.
The matter has gone through multiple hearings, with the court examining financial disclosures, documentary evidence, and submissions from both sides. As the case remains sub judice, the final determination on alimony will depend on judicial evaluation of income, liabilities, and the evidence placed on record. No conclusive order has yet been passed on the quantum of maintenance.
