Iran Warns Trump Any Attack Will Be Treated as ‘All-Out War’
Iran has warned US President Donald Trump that any military action against Tehran would be treated as an “all-out war”, following Trump’s announcement that a “big force” of American warships was headed to the Middle East. A senior Iranian official said the regime of Ayatollah Khamenei would use “everything at its disposal” to counter what it sees as a constant US military threat.
“This time, we will treat any attack—limited, unlimited, surgical, kinetic, whatever they call it—as an all-out war against us, and we will respond in the hardest way possible,” the official told Reuters.
The warning comes days after Trump appeared to scale back threats of military action over a bloody crackdown on anti-government protests in Iran, which activists say have left over 5,000 dead since the start of the year.
US Military Buildup in the Middle East
According to the New York Times, the aircraft carrier Abraham Lincoln and three destroyers, armed with Tomahawk missiles, are headed to the region. The US Air Force has also dispatched a dozen F-15E fighter jets.
Tehran remains on high alert, though the official did not specify what a possible Iranian counterattack might involve. He said, “A country under constant military threat from the US has no option but to ensure that everything at its disposal can be used to push back and restore balance against anyone who dares to attack Iran.”
Tensions had appeared to ease last week after Trump claimed his threats prevented Iran from executing over 800 protesters. However, Iran has continued its war of words. A spokesperson for the armed forces warned it could “set fire to the world” if action were taken against the Supreme Leader, while the commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned the US and Israel that the force had its “finger on the trigger.”
