AR Rahman’s Son AR Ameen Opens Up About Chennai Car Crash: ‘I Was In The Passenger Seat’

AR Rahman’s family faced a tense moment on Monday, August 10, after his son, playback singer AR Ameen, was involved in a road accident in Chennai.

Ameen sustained minor injuries in the incident and was later discharged after receiving first aid. Following the accident, his sister Khatija Rahman shared details about the incident, and Ameen has now issued a statement of his own to clarify what happened.

Taking to his Instagram Stories, AR Ameen revealed that he was seated in the passenger seat of his friend’s car when the accident occurred. He said the incident took place while they were travelling towards the airport.

“Yesterday, on the way to the airport, I was in the passenger seat of my friend’s car when we got into a minor accident. By God’s grace, everyone involved is safe and okay,” Ameen wrote, expressing gratitude for the protection and blessings they received.

The singer also thanked his family, friends, fans and well-wishers for checking on him and offering their prayers following the accident. He said their support meant a great deal to him.

Ameen further spoke about the influence of his family and those close to him, saying he believes the prayers and values passed down by his grandmother, his father AR Rahman and GV Anna continue to guide and protect him. He added that he would continue to carry their teachings with him.

According to a Hindustan Times report, the accident occurred at around 3:30 am near Guindy in Chennai. Ameen was reportedly travelling with a friend when the luxury SUV they were in collided with a hatchback operated by a cab aggregator. Police said the hatchback had moved from the left side of the road into the main lane before the collision.

Ameen, his friend and the hatchback driver reportedly suffered minor injuries. They were provided basic medical treatment and subsequently discharged. No fatalities were reported in the accident.

Following the incident, police seized both vehicles as part of the investigation. A case was also registered under relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, including Section 337, which deals with causing hurt through an act endangering life or personal safety, and Section 279, concerning rash or negligent driving on a public road.
