Bengal cricketer and Delhi Capitals wicketkeeper-batter Abishek Porel has been arrested in Hooghly in connection with a rape complaint filed by a medical student.

The woman has alleged that Porel had a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her. Police took Porel into custody on Tuesday and formally arrested him after questioning. He was subsequently sent for a medical examination and produced before the Chinsurah Court as the investigation progressed.

According to the FIR registered at Mogra Police Station, the complainant has accused Porel of sexually assaulting her, intimidating her and recording private moments without her consent. She has also alleged that he later used the material to threaten her.

The FIR further contains allegations relating to an incident in Delhi on April 2, 2026. The complainant has alleged that Porel confined her, prevented her from getting food and left her physically weak to the point that she struggled to walk and required medical attention.

The complaint states, according to the FIR, that the woman was in a relationship with Porel and that their families had discussed the possibility of their marriage. She has alleged that the relationship later deteriorated after she came to know about his alleged relationships with other women.

What The Complaint Alleges

The woman has levelled allegations of rape, criminal intimidation and the unauthorised recording of intimate moments. She has also alleged that private material was subsequently used to intimidate her.

The matter later reached the Calcutta High Court after the complainant approached it. The court directed the police to take steps in connection with the investigation, including action concerning Porel.

Calcutta HC Directs Seizure Of Electronic Devices

The Calcutta High Court also directed Mogra Police to seize Porel’s electronic devices, with the objective of preventing the circulation of photographs or other private material allegedly linked to the complainant.

Police had earlier seized a pen drive and sent it for forensic examination as part of the investigation.

Porel represents Bengal in domestic cricket and Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League. Following his arrest, the case will proceed through the investigation and judicial process.

The allegations against Porel are yet to be established in court. The facts and circumstances of the case will be determined based on the ongoing investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
