Asian Games: Indian Women’s Trap Team Wins Silver; Neeru Dhanda, Shapath Bharadwaj Reach Finals

Indian shooters added another medal to India’s Asian Games tally on Tuesday, with the women’s trap team securing silver while the men finished sixth in the team competition.

The women’s trio of Neeru Dhanda, Aashima Ahlawat and Manisha Keer accumulated 328 points to finish second behind China, which claimed gold with 346 points. Kuwait took bronze with 325 points.

Neeru was India’s standout performer, scoring 118 out of 125 in qualification. She finished joint-top with Qatar’s Ray Bassil and also set a Games qualification record. Her performance earned her a place in the eight-shooter individual final, scheduled for later on Tuesday.

Aashima scored 106 points to finish 16th in the individual qualification, while Manisha recorded 104 points and stood 23rd.

China’s gold-medal-winning team featured Liu Shanshan, Sun Yunong and Zhu Jingyu, while Kuwait’s bronze-winning side comprised Alhawal Shahad, Abdulmalik Hajar and Alhawal Sarah.

India finished three points clear of Kuwait to secure the silver medal.

Shapath Secures Men’s Trap Final Spot

India’s men’s trap team of Shapath Bharadwaj, Kynan Chenai and Ahvar Rizvi finished sixth among 10 teams with a combined score of 339 points.

Kuwait won the men’s team gold with 355 points, followed by Qatar with 349 for silver and Kazakhstan with 348 for bronze.

Shapath, however, advanced to the individual final after finishing eighth in qualification. The 24-year-old from Meerut secured the last qualification spot following a shoot-off, edging Mohammed Al-Rumaihi.

Shapath will compete in the individual final later on Tuesday alongside Neeru, giving India two representatives in the individual trap finals.

India’s sixth-place finish in the men’s team event marked a disappointing result compared with the previous Asian Games in China, where Kynan Chenai, Zoravar Singh Sandhu and Prithviraj Tondaiman won the men’s trap team gold.
