Bobby Deol Opens Up About Kanguva Flop, Reveals Why Working With Suriya Didn’t Happen: ‘Script Didn’t Work Out’

Bobby Deol’s recent career has seen him embrace intense villainous roles, from Aashram to Animal and Daaku Maharaj. However, his Tamil debut Kanguva, starring alongside superstar Suriya, didn’t perform as expected at the box office.

‘I Did Kanguva For Suriya,’ Says Bobby Deol
In an interview with Faridoon Shahryar, Bobby revealed that his main motivation to join Kanguva was his admiration for Suriya. “I did Kanguva because I always wanted to be part of a film with Suriya as he is a great actor,” he said.

Bobby portrayed Udhiran, a fierce antagonist opposing Suriya’s warrior prince Kanguvan, ruler of Perumaachi island in 1070 AD. Director Siva, who cast Bobby, had seen only a few clips of him, mostly from the Celebrity Cricket League, before deciding to bring him on board. At that time, Bobby’s film Animal had not yet released.

Bobby Deol’s Candid Take on Kanguva’s Failure
Discussing the film’s poor box office performance, Bobby was candid: “What can you do when the script doesn’t work out? Sometimes I just want to enjoy the process of shooting and grow as an actor.”

Success With Daaku Maharaj
While Kanguva struggled, Bobby enjoyed success with Daaku Maharaj, which released earlier this year to positive response. “It was a big hit, and working with Bala sir was amazing. He’s truly a star of the masses,” Bobby remarked.

Cast and Production
Alongside Suriya and Bobby, Kanguva featured an ensemble including Disha Patani, Yogi Babu, Prakash Raj, with Karthi making a cameo. The film was produced by Studio Green and UV Creations.

Upcoming Projects
Bobby continues his southern film journey with Jana Nayagan alongside Thalapathy Vijay, directed by H Vinoth. In Bollywood, he is set to appear in Anurag Kashyap’s Bandar and the YRF spy thriller Alpha with Alia Bhatt.

Bobby Deol’s Rumored Role in War 2
Speculation is rife that Bobby will join the highly anticipated War 2, starring Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR. Reports suggest that Bobby will play a pivotal villain role introduced by producer Aditya Chopra. A source told Bollywood Hungama, “Aditya Chopra is known to go against the tide, and instead of focusing on female leads, he’s unleashing Bobby Deol’s negative force as a main villain in the timeline going forward.”
